CASTLEGAR, B.C. (CP) - Mary Astaforoff, 71, of Gilpin, B.C. was committed to stand trial on arson charges yesterday after a preliminary hearing in which court officials had to extinguish a fire set by a naked woman. Astaforoff, a member of the Sons of Freedom Doukhobor sect, is charged in a Sept. 8 fire that destroyed four buildings. During a recess yesterday, a nude woman walked into court and placed a burning article of clothing on a table. |
