The National Parole Board is about to decide whether to allow day parole for a Freedomite Doukhobor woman serving a 12-year sentence on two charges of arson.

Parole board spokesman Fraser Simmons said Wednesday the board is expected to decide by Friday whether to renew day parole for Mary Braun, 66, who was sentenced to four years in 1983 and another eight years in 1985.

Braun was granted day parole on April 15 this year and returned to the Kootenay region, where she stayed in a half-way house.

But she has been in custody since July 24, when her parole was suspended.

Simmons said he was unable to disclose the reasons for the suspension.
