Writers' Guidelines

Help Wanted articles are designed to support writers at all stages of their development.

We're looking for two kinds of submissions - basic, introductory articles for new writers, and more in-depth ones for experienced writers.  We hope to offer articles on a wide range for subjects for creative writers and those writing in a business/work environment.

  • Articles should be 350-600 words long.

  • We're looking for information (Seven Print Markets for New Writers) rather than personal experience (How I Got Published). However, you're welcome to personalize the piece by including anecdotal information if necessary.

  • Send complete articles rather than queries. However, in the first few months a brief email would be a good idea, asking if I'm interested in looking at an article on: markets for new writers/bringing characters to life/winning contest strategies... or whatever you have in mind. This will ensure you're not putting time and effort into writing something I've already got in hand.

  • Please include sidebar information about books/websites which contain further information on your topic.

  • Include a brief 1-3 sentence bionote written in the 3rd.person.  This might include links to your website, publications, etc.

  • Email your article as a Word attachment. Include the words 'Help Wanted' article submission' in the subject line or

  • Paste the article into the body of the email, using the same subject line, above..

  • Include an introductory cover letter, briefly describing your experience as a writer and any other pertinent information. You do not need to be a widely published writer for your article to be considered.

  • We're currently unable to offer payment for articles, but will gladly include your publication details and links to your work online and/or your own website.

  • Email us for further information.
