Why should our company use the internet?

I strongly believe the internet is the Yellow pages of the future, and that most companies need some presence on the Web.   Even a small web site gives people a quick and easy way to see who you are and what you do, and then immediately contact you by sending an email or filling out a response form.  I also believe that it is important that your web site look professional and be customer-focused.

Design costs for a basic site are relatively inexpensive, and hosting costs for a small site can be quite low (sometimes even free!).  I can help you register a domain name (or names) and find the appropriate host.

Do clients have to spend a lot of money promoting themselves?

Absolutely not!

I believe that there are all kinds of ways to promote your business and services without spending a lot of money.  This can be especially key for small businesses that need to reach new markets but have very limited funds.  What you do need is a communications plan.  Avalon will help you find the best and most cost-effective ways to promote yourself and maximize your market exposure no matter what your budget is.

What type of strategy do you recommend?

I recommend that everyone develop an overall business strategy and plan, and integrate a marketing and marketing communications plan into that strategy.

The marketing strategy is the overall plan for your product and/or service.  It should include n Internet strategy as a subset of an overall marketing strategy, and a message strategy.  The message strategy is critical, as it will make sure everyone on the team agrees on what the basic message is, that way, everyone knows what to say and can be sure of saying the same thing to both customers and staff.

Do you outsource design?

You'll be amazed at what I can do on my desktop!  And when my in-house capabilities aren't quite enough I have a choice of several great associates to help out and deliver what you need.

What marketing tactics do you use?

I like to use the tactics that will get the job done. The tactics used should fit your specific needs and budget, fit in with your overall business plan, and, most importantly, create awareness and generate profitability in your target market.

For example, to generate immediate sales leads I might recommend direct marketing, including e-Direct mail.  To build wide awareness over time, nothing beats advertising.  I'll look at brochures and flyers, speaking engagements, associations, conferences and tradeshows — whatever meets your needs and communications and business plan.  Employee communications can use internal mail, email, the Web, video and CD/DVD, live training seminars and motivational meetings of whatever size to meet the objectives.

What about corporate identity?  We're just a little firm, do we really need one?

Everyone needs a corporate identity and identity materials — a logo, letterhead, business cards, a basic brochure and probably a presence on the web.  Your identity reflects who you are and what you stand for.  It's important to project a professional image, even when you're a one person show.
