The
ARMADILLO STRING QUARTET of Canada was founded in 1993 at the University
of British Columbia. Since then, original members, David Glavina and
Nancy Enns, have established the quartet's international reputation
by touring and performing on six continents. During their travels,
they have developed an eclectic repertoire with broad appeal, including
American jazz standards, Broadway show tunes, Gypsy melodies, international
folk songs, as well as music of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic
periods.
Members
of the quartet hold masters degrees and artiste diplomas from various
institutes and have appeared with orchestras and festivals accross Canada.
The
Quartet has produced a CD, "UNCHARTED - Music from Around the World",
a unique collage of music which the quartet has collected 'en route'.
Some pieces are traditional classics while others are simple folk melodies
that have been passed on to the quartet by friends and fellow musicians
they've met in various ports of call. The distinctive arrangements of
jazz and fiddle tunes are audience favorites and were written specifically
for The Armadillo String Quartet.
This
young, dynamic quartet has performed for the British Broadcasting Corporation,
Maltese National Television, the American television program 'Entertainment
Tonight', and in the Motion Picture 'Baywatch - White Thunder in Glacier
Bay'. The quartet has enjoyed huge popularity entertaining audiences worldwide."
