What is Communities in Bloom?
Communities in Bloom (CIB) is a non-profit Canadian organization that promotes civic pride, environmental responsibility, and beautification through community involvement and friendly competition.
CIB was established in 1995 with 29 participating communities and has grown to include over 500 communities across Canada.
In July and August, trained volunteer judges travel across Canada to evaluate communities and the contributions of:
- Municipal council and departments
- Industry
- Businesses
- Private sector volunteers
Who and what is involved?
Communities in Bloom involves so much more than flowers. It includes almost every aspect of the entire community, including:
- Tidiness of business, residential, and park areas
- Environmental awareness
- Community involvement
- Heritage preservation
- Urban forestry
- Landscaped areas
- Floral displays
- Turf and groundcover areas
