The Swan - Description
Strolling up the to the bar, Pwyll leaned back against the counter and surveyed the Swan and its inhabitants. The renovations had been subtle, but the change in the atmosphere of the room was palpable. The newly seated fire pit cast off good warmth without producing the oily smoke that typically filled most taverns. The stout tables and chairs provided comfortable seating, and, when the need arose, served well as impromptu stages for the customers. Even the newly wicked lamps around the room contributed a measure of comfort to the common area -- casting just enough light for gamblers to game, but not so much that lovers couldn't hide their affectionate embraces in shadowy corners. Pwyll smiled. The good sized local crowd, augmented by travelers and outsiders, indicated a promising career for the old Swan, and he couldn't help but feel happy at its success.
The Swan is a moderately sized inn and tavern set on two stories. It is of wattle and beam construction, with a thick well-thatched roof. The common area is round in layout about 13-14m in diametre, with a bar to the rear. Along either side of the building behind the bar, are a series of private salons (about 2x3m) accessed off separate hallways, each with a small fireplace. Immediately behind the bar is the kitchen area. Cooking is done both in the kitchen and at the fire pit in the common room. The second story covers the rear half of the building only. It has eight sleeping rooms, three of which have fire places. Cost for a private room is a penny a week. A palate in a common room is a ha'pence a week. In the rear of the building is a small gated yard and barn (see the map view below).
