Donna Hamilton is a designer/ fabric artist
from Coquitlam, BC, Canada. She has been involved in sewing for
most of her life – and has been producing fabric art for
Unitarian Universalists since 1992. She uses her art to
contribute to sacred space, with banners, pulpit cloths and
stoles. Working with many fabrics and techniques ( appliqué,
batik, fabric painting, dyeing, shibori and machine embroidery),
she creates unique aesthetic effects.
While at school in 1992 (at Capilano
College, Vancouver, in the Textile Arts program), Donna designed
her graceful chalice symbol – which she thinks of as her
“dancing chalice”. She now uses this symbol on a variety of
items such as stoles, wall hangings, and T-shirts. She has
also designed a musical variation of this chalice, incorporating
a music note as the flame.
Her work can be found not only throughout
North America, but also in England and other parts of Europe,
such as Poland and Transylvania, and as far away as Australia.
