Ruby on holidays at Canon Beach, Oregon March 9, 1997 TRIBUTE TO RUBY Dear Friends, Family and Little Ones, Thank you all so much for being here today to honor and share the life and spirit of Ruby. Ruby has always been a treasured gift. As many of you know, at a few weeks old, she chose to be with us—a very smart girl for sure! Every chance to be with her was spent, visiting at least three times a week, until Ruby was big enough to bring home. It was Christmas time and little Ruby joined in the holiday rounds of visiting and parties with great finesse— she was always in the middle of fun and meeting people. Ruby’s greatest gift was her bond with people. Her warm and magnetic personality developed over time. Babies, small children and total strangers took delight in meeting her, her happy little face and quivering tail always anticipating a moment of fun. It was Ruby’s irresistible good cheer that made it so easy for us to be welcomed into our new neighborhood. Ruby loved the woods and water. Running free on the beach or in Tynehead Park were her favorite places. No stick was too large and no day too gray. Every chance offered was taken. Her perky tail was easy to follow as she determinedly covered as much ground as possible before it was time to go for treats. Her unstoppable love of adventure led her many places. Ruby was always included in boating, canoeing and camping with us. She was well traveled down the Oregon coast and saw much of the Chilcotons by snowmobile, ATC and 4x4. She even completed a winery tour of the Okanagon with a dinner at Earl’s. We think she was always smiling. For us, Ruby ‘s gifts were many. She became so much more than a dog. With Ruby we were a family. She was a constant companion, a warm, loving and understanding spirit. Our hearts were filled with joy and tenderness and an unbreakable bond grew. The Bertrand home was filled with food, toys and laughter for all of us to share. It is with this spirit of joy and love that we honor Ruby. Ruby always seemed to live and love life to it’s fullest each day. May we all be blessed with this spirit.
