Explanation, Apology and a Valentine Wish....

Us cats, we are a placid breed of that there is no doubt
we like things to be stable, set, please don’t mess us about

This last few weeks, I must report, have really been a trial
Dad’s den was in an awful mess of that there’s no denial

Then visitors, they came and went, a friend of Mom’s, she stayed
all this became too much for Jed and his composure frayed

Now Jed, is not the best of lads, he does not act like me
when I’m upset I slide away while Jed becomes banshee

He stalked Mom’s friend quite fiendishly and when he had her fooled
he popped her with a right and left and, right then, chaos ruled

The damage was not devastating although 'twas bad enough
and Mom and Dad, they let Jed know they both were in a huff

I hope he don’t do this no more for they might trade him in
and get another cat instead there’s no way he can win

Besides, there is a saying that ‘an evil that one knows
is better than one which one don’t’ I think that’s how it goes

And I am rather used to Jed and know just where I stand
I do not turn my back on him, I’m not sure where he’ll land

I started in today to write a Valentine for Mom
and this lot started to emerge I got it off my tum

We have a darned good billet here Mom treats us very well
I get upset when Jed acts up, becomes

‘The Fiend from Hell’

Although I try to spell it out he does not understand
there aren't a million houses where us cats are in demand

So when we find a home this good where we are loved and fed
and filled with treats of shrimp and beef, permitted on the bed

We do not bite the hand that feeds or jump on every guest
we thank our feline God above and settle down to rest

So please forgive young Jed, I’ll try to make my message clear
he should appreciate his home, not be so cavalier

In other years, for Mom, I've writ much better verse than this
for Valentines, to give our thanks, for our fine feline bliss

But as I said, with all the fuss, unable to compose
Dad’s den a mess, Jed’s antics too, I’ve been quite comatose

A Happy Valentine’s dear Mom, next year I’ll do my best
to write a sparkly verse to you, right now it’s time to rest..
