Aims
1. to help Home Children and their descendants to discover their past;
2. to tell the Home Children story to as many as possible and in so doing....
3. to erase the stigma so unfairly attached to Home Children and...
4. to replace that stigma which caused such a
silent shame with justifiable pride.
Goals
1a. to bring together Home Children, their families, descendants, people with whom they once lived and friends;
1b. to inform all about where information about the movement might be found;
1c. to advise interested parties where information about specific cases might be found;
1d. to offer advice to those who wish to trace specific case histories;
1e. to liaise with agencies abroad and enlist their support in making information more easily available;
1f. to promote the bringing together of all home child records
in database format.
2a. to inform all about Child Migration in its historical context and, in the process...
2b. to reveal an important but forgotten, overlooked, or suppressed chapter in our history;
2c. to research and expose the factors (e.g. belief in the
pseudo-science of eugenics) that caused people to
inflict an unjust stigma on home
children;
2d. to provide a forum for Home Children themselves to tell
their stories.
3a. to create a milieu in which the stigma attached to home children can be erased;
3b. to create a milieu in which a justifiable pride can be
instilled in the accomplishments of Home Children,
if only because they survived a
very impersonal system and became contributing members of our
society--unsung heroes leading
quiet lives.
4a. to enkindle old and new friendships in a unique gathering of people who share a very special bond;
4b. to organize or co-host Reunions and, promote the positive side of the Child Migration story;
4c. to approach the Governments of Canada and Britain to take
positive steps to address the ills suffered by
Child Migrants world wide, and
finally...
4d. to rejoice in what Home Children have contributed to Canada.
