The main street of Amity, Oregon. Mom is standing outside a store which used to be a nice gift shop and drug store. I remember buying a tiny china dog here for 80 cents.

Across the street Mom used to buy "sucky candy" on her high school lunch breaks.

Amity, like everything else, has certainly changed. It seemed deserted on this overcast and chilly day.

The semi-colonial farmhouse where Mom was born, in the bedroom on the bottom floor, to the right of the front door.

My grandparents, Adolph and Helen Brutke, were the original owners of the house and property. It was built in 1929-1930, and the family moved in by Christmas of 1930.

My uncle, Edward Brutke, lived here all his life, until he moved to a rest home in 2001.

The present owners have done an immense amount of work on the house. It used to be white with green trim, and they've painted it yellow.

They've added a large deck on the side near the kitchen, which adjoins the small side porch. It has a hot tub! It looks lovely. I wonder what Uncle Ed would think of it all.

The new owners are avid landscapers, and have added gardens to the side, front and across the road from the house. Grandma Helen would be happy!
