General Information on DVD Set Contents

Box set contains four DVDs with 3 or 4 episodes each, for a total of 14 episodes (all that were made).
Each of the four DVDs is packaged in its own separate plastic box, the same size as a normal movie DVD box, but half as thick.
There are no extra materials in the box set - just the four DVDs in their individual boxes within the outer cardboard sleeve.
Average episode length is about 43.5 minutes, include the opening credits, closing credits, and Mutant Enemy credit (about 90 seconds). The difference to 60 minutes was made up by commercials when they aired.
Not counting the double-length opening episode Serenity, the longest single episode is Shindig, at 44:03. The shortest is Heart of Gold, at 42:26.
There are commentaries for half of the episodes, 7 in all. They are by the writers, directors and actors (yes, unlike Buffy and Angel, there is good participation by the actors in the DVD commentaries for Firefly). As always, the best commentaries are by series creator Joss Whedon.
Disc 4 has 59:13 of video extras. The longest extra feature is The Making of Firefly at 28:37.
There is one hidden "Easter Egg" on this DVD set (see Jaynestown)
There are no computer DVD-ROM features.
Video format is NTSC in Region 1, PAL in Region 2, 16:9 aspect ratio.
Content appears to be the same in all regions.
Episode soundtracks in Region 1 include English, French and Spanish. Soundtrack on extras is English only. Subtitles are available in English and Spanish.
Soundtracks are AC3 2-channel with Dolby Surround encoding (not Dolby Digital 5.1).
The disc naming scheme and internal menu file structures are a bit odd (e.g., some episodes on disc 1 are listed as "extras" rather than "main feature").
