JL, 25 February 2007 More Notes Sometimes .... well, ok, most of the time .... my mind is ticking away on 20 to 30 different plans, problems, ideas and possible solutions.  I don't know how a mind can handle that simultaneously but mine does.  If another useful thought whizzes by I have to snatch it in a nano-second or it's gone.  If this sounds familiar, enter the lowly post-it note.   I've tried this a hundred ways and this is what I know: anything not computer-related does not belong on my computer.  If my computer's not ON I can't see my grocery list, for instance.  For those notes I have yet to find anything better than ye old pen, paper and magnetic bulletin board.  Well, a PDA might be better.   For computer post-its, though, there's nothing better, in my opinion, than ATNotes.   The whole point of a post-it is speed and mindlessness, something so fast and so present it's possible to grab an idea without making a dent in the other task at hand.  Click, click, type, done.  Mr. T.A. put everything that needs to be here and then he stopped.  Simplicity and elegance, the fine-dining of post-its.  Although ATNotes is no longer in development it's still available.  I keep the installer permanently in case it ever disappears from the web.   EverNote is still the king of them all so, if you want to consolidate, you can't do better than that.   However, EverNote does not have the option of putting alarms on notes, so if you need that feature, it's an easy thing to do here. Another favorite, and then I'm done talking about notes programs, is Action Outline.  This is what I like to use for drafts of any kind.  It's a single place to keep letters-in-progress, for example, rather than having a random collection of text documents.   What I like about AO is that it doesn't have an overwhelming array of options either.  It's as stable as a rock, fast and simple.  Create your own outline items as you go and type away.  The free version is called Action Outline Lite. There are some limitations compared to the full version but I've never been bothered by them.
