Another MRIN Filing System tip

I knew I'd seen this somewhere, and I meant to go looking for it again.  In my spare time.  Ahem.  Fortunately, I just stumbled upon it.

If you're using the digital component of the MRIN Filing System, and you're a Legacy user, there's a quick way to find your next MRIN or your next MRIN-extension. When you go to put a number in the Source Citation Detail Box, click on the magnifier next to the File ID box.

It will bring up the File ID Assistant box, showing a list of all File ID numbers already used.  In this example, I'm looking for the next extension for MRIN 107.

Since I've already taken note of what MRIN number I'm presently working on, I type in the MRIN (in the form I actually use the number for source citation file ID's, which is 0107) and click Refresh.  It will then show me what extensions are already used.  I can click on Select +1 and it will automatically insert the next MRIN+extension in the File ID box.  I add the same number to my digital document and move it to my digital Source Library.  If I need to use that number for other people being sourced from that same document, it can be done here through the Select button, or simple copy and paste.

If you're renumbering MRIN's as you go, you could also be looking for the next one to use.  If you don't type in anything but just click Refresh List, at the bottom of the list it will show you the last one used.  Here it's 5047.

This works the same over at the Master Source File ID location.

You can also filter your list to show only certain numbers.  Source Citation file ID's when you're working with MRIN's and Master Source file ID's when you're working with Master Sources, obviously.  Maybe both, depending on how you use numbering.

I had been using a more awkward method of keeping several windows open at once, clicking back and forth between my database, the document I was sourcing and my Source Library, looking for "next-numbers."  This is much easier. (Yes, I did too read my User's Guide, but it was a really long time ago.)
