Just on the off chance anyone's taken an interest in Zotero, any of the 800 of you who have traipsed through my site in the past few days, virtually shutting down the LUG yesterday and choking Zotero's bandwidth, I'd like to mention a few things that weren't immediately obvious to me.  

The option to generate reports or bibliographies lives in the right-click menu in both the Collections column and the middle pane.  If you don't have a pdf print-driver yet, now would be a good time to get one.  Either PDF Creator or Primo PDF.  They're both free and will give you the option of printing records for your digital archives and for emailing to others.


I haven't started my library in earnest yet as I'm still experimenting with all the buttons. 

I would highly recommend that you watch the video tutorials.  Each one is only about a minute and will give you a good grasp of the possibilities.  I've also been reading through the manual and looking around the rest of their website.  There's alot going on there.  Zotero is not going away, it's just going to get better and better.  I encourage you to jump in with all six feet. 

Backing up your library is critical, of course, as with all things.  If you have a backup program, (such as Syncback or Genie Backup Manager) where you can set up a profile for it, that makes it very easy.  Otherwise you'll have to do it manually.  In XP, the folder can be found under:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\randomstring\zotero\

Far be it from me to say I told you so, as I really didn't see this one coming.  But now that it has it looks like Zotero could kill off Internet Explorer in a way that I haven't been able to.


There is some comfort for you IE-diehards, however.  There's another Firefox add-on called IE Tab.  With the click of a button, you can switch to viewing pages with the Internet Explorer engine inside Firefox.
