   K   About 'Kimba' Kim Schellenberg

Self Portrait - Age 5 - Lovely Blue Hair!

I have been drawing for as long as I can remember!  The sight of a giant box of crayons is still exciting!  Art has been a way to express feelings, work out concepts, draft out ideas, and communicate to the world.

Growing up with an artistic extended family, I just assumed that everyone could draw - they just chose not to!  I have to admit, I have taken my artistic abilities for granted for a long time.  My decision to follow those abilities is not a destination, but rather a journey in discovering what these gifts are that God has given to me.  Not about making a career choice, but about embracing and honoring who I AM - an artist.  It is as much a faith-walk in trying to determine what God wants for my life as it is about creating beauty through art.

While most of my skills have been self-taught, I continue to invest in formal art training through drawing, painting, and art history classes; upgrading my visual education.  In November of 2008, I received a Student Recognition Award from Red Deer College, shown below:

As of December 15, 2008, I am awaiting official marks on two more classes: 'Painting II' & 'Visual Fundamentals I'.

I love painting interior murals for many reasons, but mostly because inside I'm a little kid and love to paint on the walls (and not even get in trouble for it)!

Why the name 'Kimba'? Well, once a co-worker offered me a snack, and she 'tripped' on her words.  'Kim' and 'Melba toast' ended up coming out as 'Kimba' and it stuck!
