Two mountain lakes in the Sooke Hills,
3 day hike with 2 nights camping
at one lake.
The lakes have wild cutthroat trout.
Trip requires hiking in rough terrain
with backpacks and equipment.
Some camping equipment may be
carried part way to lakes with
4-wheel drive all terrain vehicle
(ATV or quad).
Extra option: one extra day and night with camping at a
third lake which has stocked rainbow trout. Extra cost
per person $110. This includes a hike with packs and
equipment over rugged, but scenic mountain tops
between the lakes. There is no specific trail; we follow
existing animal tracks.
Rivers:
Lots of walking along
river banks plus
wading. Should be
reasonably fit.
Species are rainbow,
cutthroat, brown,
steelhead, depending
on which river. The
choice of river
depends on the time of
year, closures, and up-to-
date fishing conditions.
All rivers have areas for overnight camping.

Some of our most spectacular and
exciting river fly fishing starts
mid-September in the larger river.
October and November for smaller streams and tributaries
have water and are literally full of coho salmon.
If you want to catch a salmon on the fly, this is the place to be.
Chum salmon: October through November (rivers). Very abundant
numbers of fish. Best on the coast.
Chinook salmon: mid-September through October (rivers).
Steelhead: winter - January and February; spring April;
summer - July and August, first week in September (rivers).
Summer months are good after rain.
Small-mouthed bass: mid-May through October (lakes). Lots of
fish from boat.
