On Friday we had an appointment to meet Karl Ole Midtbø, Head of Cultural Affairs in Os, and the sculptor Arne Mæland in Os after lunch. Karl Ole was our main contact at Os and principal organizer of the celebrations. In the morning the 5 guys headed into Bergen to see some of the tourist sites. We found that the Fantoft Stavekirke was only open from May 15th to September 15th - but we could walk around outside and view this ancient all wood church. We did manage to visit Troldhaugen, home of Norway's most celebrated composer Edvard Grieg. Helen came and we set of to Os, stopping along the way to see the Lyse Kloster - the Monastery of Lyse. We met Karl Ole in Os and he took us to Arne Mæland's studio where we admired his work and saw the finished plaque. After a social visit we went to Haugland and the crash site where Arne installed the plaque on the stone. |
