The Popular Participation Movement (PPM) was formally established as a campus club at Malaspina University-College in September 2005. Its formation was a response to the lack of political awareness, involvement, and action in the community in general but especially among youth. The PPM actively challenges the norms of Nanaimo's political culture.
OBJECTIVES
- to increase awareness of local and global
socio-political issues
- to form and expand a network of socially
conscious people
- to involve youth in national, provincial,
and municipal elections
- to promote a voice of opposition to
the privatization of natural resources,
public property and public services
- to support other active community groups
- to champion the philosophy of 'people and
the environment before profit'
