The Mailman is set in the fictional former coal mining town of Tipple, Washington. It's an amalgam of small towns found in British Columbia and Washington State. The mining town of Wilkeson, WA., comes pretty close to what I had in mind. So, with apologies to Wilkeson (from whence these pictures really come) here's a cook's tour of Tipple.
The Tipple Town Hall. Lovely old rock building with a big sign so you know what it is. Samantha's office and the lockup would be around back.
Making the turn on to Adit. Salal Street would be out of the picture on the right. Helena Helprin's home would be out of sight at the end of the street. On the right side, of course.
Tipple's museum, not mentioned in The Mailman, would look a lot like this, reflecting a proud mining tradition going back generations.
Here we have the booths at the Red Lantern. The Tipple Tornadoes table would be out of sight to the right. The door by which Odin exited is the one just visible at the right
