A Brief History
Bluegrass music started in the Penticton area thanks to Juliette Spear and
from there an invitational get-together was held at the Glen McQuirter farm
at Summerland. It was so successful that Gary and Barb Grimm, Guy and
Roseanne Oliver and Lawrence Trudeau decided to have a Festival at the Rodeo
Grounds in Summerland, B.C.--that was in 1996 and it has been
growing ever since. People from the Western Provinces and from the U.S. have
enjoyed Bluegrass music, meeting new and old friends every year. We have
strived to keep Bluegrass and traditional Country Music alive, and to provide
events where people can play acoustic instruments and have fun. We will
strive to keep Bluegrass alive in Summerland.
