My chop (the Chinese ideograms in the blue rectangular box at the top) was made for me in Vancouver's Chinatown in 1978. It supposedly consists of the syllables of my last name converted into the ideograms representing the closest Chinese sounds. But I have recently been advised that first, there are more than two syllables in my chop, and second, these translate very loosely into a writer of status with a light touch. Perhaps, after all, it simply says: "Made in China". It could be worse.
Faithful readers may note a drastic reduction in the size and contents of this site. This has been done for a very important technical reason, to wit, to bring The Site into synchronicity with The Journal, to match the characteristics of both, and, as always, to recognize and provide for all Hobgoblins everywhere in minds large and small.
Simulacrum, true to form as ever, has both expanded and contracted, and lives to tell the tale. No longer a quarterly journal, we publish annually or once a year, whichever comes first. But each issue is 100 pages or more.
A paper copy of Issue 27, while quantities last, is $15(US) inside North America and $20(US) elsewhere. A PDF file of Issue 27 is $5(US) anywhere in the world. All prices quoted here and for the CD include shipping by airmail.
PayPal payments are preferred. Simply go to PayPal . Our reference is Simulacrum or kula@telus.net.
Those of you who live in North America can simply pay by personal cheque/check. Just make it out for the appropriate amount, and it's automatically in the correct currency. And please don't bother certifying it … there's no
need to pay a bank to establish your bona fides with me.
All financial instruments (cheque, check, money order, etc.) should be made out to John Kula,
and sent to the following address:
John Kula I prefer personal cheques/checks over Money Orders. Firstly, a MO costs you extra for the privilege. And secondly, a MO is more likely to cause
me delays than anything else. You see, if you live in the USA and buy a MO, unless you specify that the MO is going to
be sent internationally, by default you will receive the domestic MO for
internal USA use only. My bank is not amused if I try and deposit an internal USA MO, so I have to send it back to
you. See what I mean? Send a check.
International customers have several options, most of them hellishly expensive. If you chose to send me a Money Order,
please note that it will automatically be made out in Canadian dollars, so you will
have to convert the price in US dollars to Canadian dollars. If you are somewhat adventurous, you may wish to consider the advantages
of sending $US cash … handled properly, there is minimal risk, and I have a
long record of successfully receiving cash in the mail from abroad. And if you don't trust me, then why the hell
are you considering subscribing in the first place?
