Why did I become a teacher?:I went to Happy Valley Elementary school in Victoria and it was the most memorable part of my life. The time I spent there encouraged me to become a school teacher. My philosophy as a teacher: I try to use humour and fun in my teachings. Sometimes things are easier to learn or remember when you are doing a fun project or when you use a riddle. However throughout the class we learn to maintain a strong sense of respect for each other. Why did I want to become a writer and illustrator?:I have always loved drawing superheroes as a kid but the spark came during my teacher training. I took a Designs For Learning: Reading course at Simon Fraser university, and as a project I created a children's book; "The Day Scotty Richings Had Nothing To Do." From that point on, I couldn't stop writing. I love reading to my students all the wonderful stories I buy at "Kidsbooks" in Vancouver. One day I want a teacher or parent to read one of my books to their children. |
