Watch the birdie

Earlier in January, a group of children were on a break from school and watching some of the local wildfowl. Suddenly, the pheasants they were watching made an unlikely decision to eat some leaded pellets as the Royal Hunt came through. No doubt a traumatic experience for the children. Surprisingly, or maybe not surprisingly, there are still those in England who enjoy the Sunday afternoon thrill of watching a group of hounds chase after the English wildlife. Will it actually be banned? - watch for an article on hunting vs killing coming soon.

What happened to your manners?

I'm walking back to my apartment and see an elderly lady walking her dog. Suddenly the dog does a 180 and wraps the chain around the lady's ankles. Consequently she falls down. I rush over to help her, and she finds that while she isn't in much pain, she can't put any weight on one leg - probably the result of a dislocated hip. As a result, I use my arms as a sling and physically carry her back to her apartment where she could call her son.

[Personal rant] While I was carrying her up the street, through the doors and into the elevator, I was passed by several people - being somewhat out of breath, I didn't really have the energy to ask for help - yet noone even looked our way. Or they looked and looked away. One male individual came out through the doors and instead of offering to hold them open, just walked by and let them shut.

Why have people lost their will to care for individuals of the same species?
