Music at the Pondside
My Little Filk Report - enjoy!
It was a fabulous weekend! Not only was the hostess gracious and welcoming, but the attendees were wonderful too! Having Steve Dixon for a GoH was a real treat. All manor of musical instruments were in evidence - guitars a-plenty, a mandolin, maracas, shakers, tamborines, a keyboard, harps - a veritable filkers paradise.
The music started right away friday night with just Douglas and Eliza. I interrupted their filking to call for a pick up - the bus left just as I was walking up to it (just figures) and they kindly came to rescue me and my instruments from an hour long wait in Downtown Victoria for another bus.
Late friday night, Steve Dixon and his family arrived. They came up from Seattle to join us.
Eliza and Douglas
Douglas has the most wonderful harp that has been handmade for him. It's the kind of instrument that makes you sigh, half with pleasure, half with jealousy, and wonder if you can live off wieners and beans long enough to save the money to buy one yourself.
JT - reading Bujold while waiting for the filk to begin again.
Daniel, regailing us with one of the many songs in his repitoire. He came all the way up from Portland to join us for the weekend.
Let there be Filk!
Douglas in the kitchen - stay out of the way!
Breakfast is served!
(And a most yummy breakfast it was too!)
Eliza, Douglas and Cindy
A wonderful weekend, draws to a close - and we are left with pictures, hugs and memories to carry with us till next we meet.
Keep You Closer
words and music by Rob WynneC -------------------------------------Em
We come from different corners of the world
G ----------------------------------------D
And the times that our paths will cross are few
C
A few short weekends through the year
Em
And then it's time to go
G ---------------------------------D
And parting ways is always hard to do
But give me just a minute to embrace you
To hold you close before you turn away
A moment to remind you
That we're closer than the miles
To keep until we meet another day
C -----------------------------------G
If I could hold the world inside these arms
D --------------------------------Am
If I could build a bridge across the sea
C----------------------------------- G
If I could shrink the miles that lie between us
D ------------------Am --------Em
I'd keep you closer every day to me
If the world were only a bit smaller
Then leaving wouldn't be a cause for tears
But the shuttle waits to take you home
And on a plane you'll soon be gone
And we may not meet again until next year
(chorus)
Slowly now we pull apart and smile and say goodbye
Load our bags into our cars and go
And despite the sadness
that must come with each farewell
I love you, and that's all you need to know
(chorus)
