Rules Applied to Push Hands Competition :
    Although this is called "Push Hands Competition", participants should treat it as a game. The purpose of this game is to utilize Tai Chi skills and principles to cause your opponent to get off balance, fall down or step out of the ring (Ring size: 2 meter diameter). As it is a competition, sportsmanlike attitude is required. During competition, competitors are required to remain open handed the whole time.

ALLOWED      NOT ALLOWED
Open handed      Tightly grabbing the opponent’s clothing or any part of the body to force the opponent
to get off balance, fall down or step out of the ring or re-gain balance.
Joint twisting, pressure points, punching, hitting, elbowing, striking etc. are also not allowed.
Tripping      Sweep kicks with leg, knee or foot to the opponent.
Throwing      Touching any part of the opponent's head and neck.
Fixed steps     Excessive force by taking big steps to push or resist to being pushed.


Match system  :  Single Knock - out
Duration of match  :  2 minutes, one round
1 point awarded  :  To causing opponent to be off balance, falling down or stepping out of ring.
Winner awarded  :  To the competitor with the highest score in points.
Scoring Judges  :  Two (require both judges to agree upon each point)
Center Referee  :  One
Tied  :  Match extended an extra 30 seconds.
If still tied  :  Sudden death
Disqualification  :   1st warning is issued when rules are violated unintenionally.
2nd warning results in disqualification.
Instant disqualification when rules are violated intentionally.
