CRW Celebrates the Shipment of 100 Containers

On February 5, 2005 a pot-luck dinner was held in the Fireside Room of Victoria First Church of the Nazarene to celebrate the shipment of the 100th container from the Compassionate Resource Warehouse with about 150 in attendance. The first container was shipped to Honduras in September of 2000 and the 100th container was shipped to South Korea in December of 2004. The evening included a slide show of CRW volunteers as well as pictures of individuals receiving goods from CRW containers in destination countries and a video clip from the recent CTV W5 television presentation of the distribution of goods from the ICROSS container which was shipped to Kenya in March of 2004 from the CRW. Congratulatory letters were read and are included below.

February 1, 2005

Greetings Dell Marie and CRW volunteers,

What a momentous occasion this is for not only Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, but the whole Church of the Nazarene. Congratulations to you all on this great achievement of sending over 100 containers from your warehouse. It is truly exciting to see your team going beyond the call of duty to prepare and ship that many containers to places in need all over the world. You are helping present the compassionate face of the Church of the Nazarene to people across the globe and surely building his kingdom through the gifts and commodities you ship.

On behalf of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, I would like to present the Compassionate Resource Warehouse with the Good Samaritan Award in honor of your great accomplishment. Thank you for your many hours of service for the sake of "the least of these." Know that your work is appreciated by the entire denomination. Congratulations.

May God bless you and the ministry of the warehouse for another 100 shipments!

With Gratitude,

Larry Bollinger

Many individuals would like to help those who are less fortunate than themselves, but too often these well-wishes do not come to fruition. In the case of the Compassionate Resource Warehouse, you have lived the maxim "do unto others as you would have them to do unto you” Few organizations that I can think of have been so helpful and so useful, working with so little to help so many. More than 100 containers filled with vital supplies have helped improve the lives of tens of thousands of people in some of the poorest areas in the world.

I can tell you from personal experience, having traveled to some of these areas, that the degree of poverty is almost unimaginable (and yet the human spirit often soars). I have also seen first hand the work that the Warehouse and all its supporters do and the impact that this has had on the lives of some of these individuals. You have enabled children to go to school, to be clothed, ultimately to get a job and, frequently, to save their lives. You have helped the young, the old and everyone in between.

I want to thank you, on behalf of all those people that you help in the far-flung, desperate areas of our planet, and I cannot wait to see you fill and send out the next 100 containers.

Thank you and God bless.

Sincerely,

Keith Martin, M.D., P.C., M.P.

It is with great pleasure that I extend warmest greetings to the members of the Compassionate Resource Warehouse.

Over the years you have prepared and shipped over 100 containers containing medical supplies and essentials to needy areas overseas, most recently to the areas affected  by the tsunami disaster. As you reflect upon this special milestone, you may take great pride in your dedication to helping others. I commend each of you for your compassion and generosity of spirit, and for your unwavering commitment to making a real difference in the lives of countless individuals throughout the world.

Please accept my best wishes for every success in the years ahead.

To: Dell Marie Wergeland, Staff and Volunteers of the Victoria Warehouse

It is a remarkable achievement. I cannot believe that you have shipped 100 containers in such a short period of time. On behalf of Dr. Stewart and the Team at NCMC

CONGRATULATIONS!!

You have worked extremely hard and God has certainly rewarded your stewardship and faithfulness. It is difficult for me personally to comprehend the magnitude of the task that has made this milestone a reality. When I visited the warehouse a year ago I thought that it would be some time before we would ship most of the inventory, but you have surprised me in a wonderful way.

May God continue to Bless you all for the dedication and ability to meet needs in such a timely fashion. I regret that I am unable to attend this celebration to congratulate you in person, but my prayers are with you. I know that you will carry on with the task at hand in light of the events going on around the world today. I know your materials will be needed even more. Thank you for the service you have provided and will continue to provide to those in a hurting world where your hand is reaching, especially those who need and whose hearts are being touched by your kindness and generosity. Little is much when God is in it. Your reputation in the compassionate ministries arena is well known and respected. Thank you so very much for being such willing servants of our Lord Jesus Christ. Your success was made possible through your willingness to be obedient to God and available to His calling. May your ministry continue to be a blessing around the world.

Dell, your leadership abilities do not go unnoticed. You and your faithful helpers made this all possible. Thanks to everyone!

God be with you always.

In His Service,

To Compassionate Resource Centre Volunteers:

In the Spring of 1999 a dream took foothold, and tonight you are celebrating the development and explosion of that dream. Dell Marie, following her heart, has led you through these years with an energy and compassion that leaves the average person exhausted. Truly God knew what he was doing when He chose her.

The Victoria Warehouse sent out the first shipment in the Fall of 2000, and now in a little over 4 years that number is over 100.

Only those of you who have been involved in this gigantic task know the anxiety, labour, tears and joy that have occurred. This year, 2004, 28,359 volunteer hours have been freely given.

Thank you for the times you wanted to stay home but there was a box that needed to be filled and you did it. Thank you for expanding your own world to include those whom you may never meet. Thank you for the hours of labour, the paperwork, research, backaches, cut fingers and weary bodies. Thank you for your gift of love, the laughter, tears, joy and a job well done.

Matthew 25:40 "When you did it to these my brothers you were doing it to me."

The National Board of Canada receives your report each year and it is commonly accepted with a standing round of applause and admiration. Your contribution to our denomination is monumental.

And so, we the National Board offer to you our congratulations and a heart full of thanks to each and everyone as you commemorate this awesome achievement.

For such a time as this,

Faithful Volunteers, Friends, & Partners of Compassionate Resource Warehouse, Victoria

To think that only 4 years ago you wondered if you could gather and ship 4 containers of medical supplies to those who needed them in the developing world. Now 4 years later, your commitment, your continuing compassion for those less fortunate, and your sharing of time and talent has led to over 100 shipments. Congratulations!! And Thank you!!

Back in 1986 I had a dream as I was preparing a shipment of 3/4 million 3 cc syringes & needles for overseas. It was a dream of a warehouse where 3-4 shipments/year of medical supplies to developing countries could be developed in Canada. I consider you the fulfillment of my dream  but in reality my dream was too small for you. You have surpassed that dream with 42 shipments in one year and now the dream can no longer be mine. It is yours.

Thank you for hearing the silent cry in the night. Yes, you have responded to the cries of the recent tsunami victims and for that we are grateful, but my heart always goes out to that silent cry; "Help me" that falls where there is no microphone, where there is no tape recorder, where there is no video, where there is no tourist to bring the message home, where there is no journalist to broadcast the cry internationally. That cry is picked up by only one and when that one shares their cry with you or one of your partners, you do not turn away. You respond, "Yes, I will help with what I have.” It says to them that they are not alone in this world, that there is someone who cares, who loves, and who wants to help. Thank you, thank you from those you may never meet here on earth, from those who are unable to communicate their gratitude, from those who have the least but need it the most. Thank you.

I can hear our Lord saying to you during this time of celebration, "Well done, you good and faithful servant: you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter into the joy of your Lord.

Congratulations on your faithfulness, and your accomplishments. Without you, it would not have happened. As a previous missionary doctor overseas, and as a representative of Compassionate Resource Association Canada and the Church of the Nazarene, Canada, I want to express my heart felt ."THANK YOU" to all who have had some part to play in Compassionate Resource Warehouse; Victoria, B.C. Your accomplishments are worth celebrating.
