MEDICINAL USES:
Alder leaved Buckthorn, like its relatives Cascara and southern Buckthorn is cathartic laxative. The inner bark is the part used. Its effects are rapid and powerful – large doses may cause diarrhea and vomiting. An infusion of one large tablespoon of powdered or shredded bark should be enough to do the trick.
