MEDICINAL USES:
Coralroot is a powerful sedative and diuretic with a reputation for quick action in bringing on profuse perspiration and lowering temperature while calming nervous agitation. It is also a valuable sedative, especially for those whose agitation stems from suppressed anger and frustration.
As an emergency first aid for acute and dangerous inflammations, infections and fevers, such as pleurisy, pneumonia or meningitis, it can be valuable in stabilizing someone in an emergency; until proper medical care can be obtained. Felter’s Materia Medica of 1922 calls it “the most perfect diaphoretic we know of.
Coralroot is an excellent herb for treating fevers that may develop during and after childbirth. Not so much as a cure for the underlying cause, but as fast acting first aid until you can get to a hospital.
It is also an ideal tonic for a convalescent patient, especially those suffering from respiratory disorders. It eases coughs and chest pains, gently stimulates the appetite and eliminative system.
Dosage is a scant teaspoon of root per cup of water, preferably as a cold infusion, or 15–20 drops of the tincture.
