MEDICINAL USES:
The main ingredients of Ladies Mantle are salicylates and tannins. The tannins are mostly present in the form of glycosides. The aerial parts are astringent, styptic and antinflammatory. Ladies Mantle’s reputation as a healing herb for women comes from its ability to relieve vaginal irritation and its capacity for reducing menstrual flow and in relieving menstrual cramping. It is best known as a treatment for fibroids and endometriosis, though it can also be effective in treating diarrhoea and gastrointestinal inflammation. Many herbalists recommend Ladies Mantle as a tonic in formulas to ease the transition into menopause. The German Commission E recognizes the astringent properties of Ladies Mantle. Dosage is one Tablespoon per cup for the herb and 2 – 4 ml or 30 – 60 drops of the tincture, taken three times daily.
