Local performers take the stage to benefit the cancer society.

Pull on your cowboy boots and head over to McBurney's Coffee House in Langley City one week from today for a free evening of great country music.
Four country acts will take the concert stage on Friday, July 28, to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society.
"Cancer has touched everyone," said Langley resident and local country performer Shawn Flint.
With many of his family members having succumbed to the disease, he felt it was his duty to give back to others afflicted with cancer.
The benefit concert is the second in the Summer Charity Concert Series, put on by the B.C. Songwriters Showcase Association.
Since members of the songwriters group perform outside of McBurney's Coffee House every Wednesday evening, the performers thought it would be fitting to hold their summer benefit concerts at the Langley City location as well.
The event, which runs from 7:30 to 10 p.m., is free and will be held outside, weather permitting.
The four country acts will perform about six songs each, Flint said.
Flint, who recently returned to his country music roots, has been playing with the BCSSA for close to three years.
The singer/songwriter will be joined by Christine Frandsen, a B.C. Country Music Association nominee for both 2005 Female Vocalist of the Year and Rising Star, as well as the BCSSA's 2005 Songwriter of the Year.
Pat Chessell will also perform Friday, bringing a high-energy, bluesy style of country music to the stage.
The group will be rounded out by The Higgins, who perform contemporary country seasoned with classic rock and Celtic flare.
The BCSSA performers will also be joined by a local rising pop songstress, Ginette Genereux.
Donations will be collected at the
concert to go towards the CCS.
