Mount Weed 3080 m,
Banff National Park

Southwest Face of Mount Weed from Icefields Parkway
I had often looked at Mount Weed as I drove up Icefields Parkway north of Bow Lake. Though it is a fairly dominant peak adjacent to the road, only recently did I get around to investigating the summit. While the weather was decidedly uncooperative, I was pleasantly surprised with the ascent. Undoubtedly, the view would be better on a clear day...

(Left) after a brief storm, a skiff of snow lingers on Mount Murchison as seen from the summit. (Right) looking towards Peyto Lake and Wapta Icefield from Mount Weed. This was not a good day for pictures.
This ascent is just one of over 155 scrambles fully described in my new guidebook, Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies, which can be ordered online by clicking here.
