MUSINGS FROM THE PRIEST
About the upcoming 50th Anniversary of the Church
Fifty years might seem like a long time. If this parish was to recall all the events that had happened during the course of this time such as all the baptisms, all the confirmations, all the weddings, and all the funerals one would have enough stories and tales to tell to fill several books. Throw in all of the social events like teas, raffles, Pancake Suppers, Harvest Thanksgivings, Craft fairs and the like and one would come to realize how large a part this "small little church on the hill" has played in the lives of parishioners and within the community.
On the other hand, fifty years comes and goes in the blink of an eye. Ask those parishioners who attended the first service at All Saints fifty years ago and who still faithfully attend on a regular basis. Ask those parishioners who had led substantial and eventful lives long before All Saints came into existence such as our dear Edith Pallister who lost family members in the First World War and who has seen and experienced more in her life than many of us could comprehend. Or perhaps ask those of my generation who were born at the time of All Saints beginnings and are still called ‘young!!!’
Whichever way one chooses to reflect on the past fifty years in the history of All Saints one constant remains: the weekly worship of God Almighty, the weekly thanksgiving for the life of His son Jesus Christ, and the weekly adoration at the wonder of the Holy Ghost working in our lives. No matter what was going on in the world at the time, who was attending at any particular service, or who was the priest celebrating the mass and providing the Sacraments at that moment this basic fact remains and thank God for that.
All Saints was, is, and will always remain (D.V.) a church, a house of worship, first and foremost. This is the constant that brings us all together, sustains us in our moments of need, and gives us hope for the future and provides us with the means to attain our Heavenly reward promised to us in those same Gospels we read week in and week out.
May God bless the parish of All Saints, all those parishioners past, present, and those, to come, now and forevermore. Amen.
Pax,
Father Antony Ward+
