Welcome to the new Jaguars web site. This site is for team communicate. This space will contain game stats and upcoming schedules. I will be updating this site after every game and hope to put in a game summery from the coaches prospective.

Team huddle

Welcome to the new Jaguars web site. Game summary for Nov 13. We started off with good pressure but 5 minute in to the first Jafa scored a soft goal. Near the end of the first we ran into a little bit of penalty trouble. Some good fore checking kept us out of trouble and we killed off both penalties. In the second period we turned up the pressure and got a lot more shots on net. Courtney evened the score with some hard digging around the net. Jafa answered back with 2 goals late in the period. In the 3rd down 3 to 1 we put on a scoring flurry scoring 3 goals in the first 5 minutes of the period to go up by one. Elizabeth put one high over the goalie off the cross bar. Then some sweet passing form Lorraine and Elizabeth set Courtney up for a best goal of the night. Sharon stepped up and came in for a nice goal to round out the scoring. Jafa answered back with one goal to tie the game. The rest of the game saw a number of good chances but we just couldn't put it in. Next week is a Practice ice I plan to work on Breakouts so come ready to do a lot of skating see you next week.

Great practice every one had lots of energy and a good turn out. When you practice your skills remember that the key to all great hockey players is great puck handling they have control of the puck. They have their heads up, see the play developing and react to the flow on the ice. Every one needs to work on puck control remember the home work? Every day spend 5 to 10 minutes puck handling. During that time try to look up, focus on something about 10 feet ahead of you (TV) and use your peripheral vision to monitor the puck. Feel the puck on your stick. Don't try and go to fast just try and control the puck. When you work on puck handling you will be a better hockey player!!

Wow what a game!! We handed the Canadians their first loss of the season. Good work by everyone. We started off a little slow with the Canadian putting in two goals early in the first. We held them off for the rest of the period and score one late with some hard work around the goal. Good things happen when you pass it at the net. Lorraine brought us even 2 all. The defense gave her some room and she step out of the corner and found the 5 hole from an impossible angle. Canadians scored one more in the 2nd but that would be their last of the game. The 3rd started off with some nice passing and a clean breakout ended with Elizabeth hitting the top corner from 20 feet out Wow! Putting us even at 3 each. It was all Jaguars with some stellar goal tending from Heather we shut down the Canadians forward drives. With 9 minutes left to play Lesley deflected a shot from the point, beating the goalie cleanly thought the 5 hole. This put us on top for the first time in the game. The Canadians turned up the pressure and pulled their goalie with 1 minute remaining. We were winning the battles on the boards and never gave them a chance to setup sealing our victory. Well done by every one and not a single penalty. I will not be at the next game so good luck and keep up the good work.

Well played game just a couple players short to come out ahead. It seemed we just ran out of steam. The Jets had a full bench we were playing with only 8 players. The question of the day was do we go with two full lines and two D (we have done that before)? The Jets are a young team with a lot of speed so we thought we should play with three D and be short one for two line up front. The first two periods we came out strong playing mostly in the Jets end just had problems getting it pass the goalie. The first period was a clean period with no penalties and only one goal by the Jets. It was just a matter of time before the Jets goalie would break down. In the second period we landed up getting three penalties, with not too many on the bench it was taking a toll on us. Jets got another goal making it 2 nothing at this point. I thought we were going to be in trouble and at any time they were going to turn it on. The battle was still pretty even the Jaguars breakouts were looking good with one getting us on the score board. Petie getting it to Elizabeth to Leslie and in the net. Highlight reel goal of the game too bad we don't have instant replay. At the end of the second period the Jaguars were only down 1 goal. At the beginning of the third period we scored a beautiful goal that went from Shannon to Jodie and then to Courtney to put it pass the goalie, excellent goal. At this point I think that woke up the Jets, it seemed they were reserving some energy. We got two more penalties in the third and they scored 4 more goals. Heather had a great game she just lost the support in the third. The Ref’s even mentioned that we had a great game for the amount of players we had. Great game guys if only the game was two periods long.

We started out the first period short players only 2 D an 5 forwards. The D stepped up and stayed on for most of the first period. By the end of the first we had 3 D and 2 full forward lines but the Rivulettes had put 2 on the board by the end of the period. The second period was an even battle we held them off and had a few good chance but couldn't put one on the score board. The Rivulettes had a few good chance but Heather closed the door and kept them off the score board. The third we started to get tiered and the took a few penalties. The Rivulettes capitalized and score two more. We made a few nice passes and had some good chance but we also gave the puck away more then we should have. We need to work on our position play so I have Updated the Wisdom from the bench section this week that show how to pressure the puck in the offensive zone we caused a few turnover's with aggressive fore checking but were not able to capitalize because the support players were not in the right places. I would like you to talk with your line mates and make sure you all understand the assignments during a fore check. You all have to be on the same page for it to work effectively. Nice win, great work by everyone. It started off a little scary with only 8 skaters and no goalie. We put 6 skaters on for the first 4 minutes. It was a bit confusing with everyone floating from forward to D. Nice read and react with good puck control. We controlled the play and I think that they only got in our end 2 times in the first 7 minutes. Heather got on the ice and we settled in to 3 d and 5 forwards. We kept the pressure up and most of the play was in the Devils zone. Some nice passing and heads up play ended the period with us up 3 to nothing. The second was much the same we controlled the play, they had a few breakouts but we recovered the puck in our zone. Nice work in the neutral zone and defensive zone by everyone. Kandice got her first goal of the season, nice pinch Kandice to end the second period up 4 nothing. I had to leave to play my own game at the start of the 3rd. Sandy sent me an update that Margo, Shannon and Jannay scored in the third to win the game 7 nothing. Great effort by everyone see you on Thursday.

Another really solid game for every one. We were down to only 8 skaters again. The holiday seasons is really taking a toll on attendance but not on the wins. We put another one in the win column. Thanks to a lot of hard skating, good D, and winning the battles on the boards. We had a lot of really good chances in the first but the Ice Pack goalie was very solid and shut us down at every turn. We got one past her in the first with some nice passing and a shot that fooled her with it's lack of speed. Ice Pack got on the board to even things up in the second but, by the end of the second we were back up by one. We ran into some penalties in the 3rd but were able to hold off the Ice Pack with some heads up defensive play and solid back checking. We even had a few good chance to score shorthanded but the Ice Pack goalie kept it close with some fantastic saves. We put one more in on a power play to get the win with a 2 point lead. I think I need to start bringing a note pad to the game as the details some times get lost by the time I update the web site. Thanks Heather for pointing out the error on last weeks update (see the old news for the correction) Heather was only missing for the first 4 minutes of the game it just seamed link 7 to us. One thing I noticed that we could improve on was the power play and penalty kill. I will post some Wisdom from the Bench on these 2 areas over the Christmas break. Hi everyone Happy New Year. Thanks for all the email updates. If you have not checked the schedule please go to the SAWHA web site. I have updated the Game Attendance with all the info I have at this time. The World Junior Canada & USA game on Dec 31 was one of the best games in the tournament if you misted the game you can be watch on line at TSN. I liked the power play Canada used in this game see how they move the puck with energy and speed. See you at the game tomorrow.

For those who were at the game last night you can watch the Canada vs. Russia semifinal on TSN click here what a game. Talking about a good game we had one against the Penguins with only 8 players. Elizabeth opened the scoring with a breakaway and beat the goalie high on the short side very nice. The Penguins put one in with 2 minutes left in the first. The Penguins are fast skaters but we used are heads and moved the puck nicely up and kept the pressure on them. Penguins scored with 5 minutes left in the second. This was a hard period we had two power plays but were not able to convert them into goals please review the Wisdom form the bench. On the power plays we need to control the puck and follow the plan. With 6 minutes left to play after we used our time out Lorraine put one in from the point tying the game. The Penguin turned up the pressure and we were getting tiered they put one in with only 3 minutes left to play. We pulled the goalie but were not able to even the score. Good game every one. Team Canada wins gold Jan 5 to view the game click here. Jan 4 Jaguars Game summery by Lorraine as follows. Another game with not enough players to make two complete lines. We had one more player then last game giving us 2 spare forwards and one spare defense. It was a great group effort just coming out short with a tie. The Ice packs just had a little more then we did. Just wait till we have a full team. The refs didn't call too many penalties only giving each team 1 in the third. The first period there were no goals. Not that we didn't have any chances but the Ice Pack goalie stoned us. We scored first in the second period, very nice goal that happen right from our own end. Dianne passing out to Elizabeth who passed it over to Sandy who puts it in. (Sweet). The third period we scored the go ahead goal. Another sweet goal from Janay who received a great pass from the play maker Elizabeth. Elizabeth also found the goal post just missing putting it into the net by an inch. The dreadful ping. With only under 1 minute in the game with a player from each team in the box the face off in our end. Ice pack pulled their goalie so there was 5 on 4. Scramble in the corner of our end the puck some how makes it's way to the weak side were the Ice pack player was not being watched. Heather didn't have a chance to make the save. We were all hoping for the win so the goal was hard to take. Hopefully Thursday we can have more players so we can come out with a win.

Posted Jan 9 We should have won that one. We had a lot of good chances but just couldn't put 2 goals in. We played a good game nice to see a full bench again. The wild got the first goal with some scramble play and a late whistle. We came back and evened the score with some nice passing and a clean shot. We had some penalty problems for most of the second period some dreadful refereeing. In the third Lorraine got a break away and was pulled down by the defense. First penalty shot of the year for us. She had the goalie beat on the back hand but hit the post so close. We had some good chances and we controlled the puck on one of the power plays we just couldn't get the puck to the off wing for the shot good effort. In the third the goal shut the door on us and we end in a tie. See you on Sunday.

Posted Jan 19. We need to stay calm during the game. The officials were awful but we took our self's out of the game with unsportsmanlike penalties. With only 3 players on the ice for the last five minutes we had no chance to come back and were luck to only loss by one point. See you all on Tuesday.

Posted Jan 21. Well we had one good period but the Raiders wanted it more then we did. In the first the Raiders forced the play in our zone and had us on are heels with 2 players on the puck. At the end of the period we were luck to be only down by two. We made some line up changes to help generates some scoring opportunities move Lorraine up and put Patti on D. 3 minutes in to the second Janay picked up a pass from Courtney on a 2 on one and scored our first goal. Nice work by the whole line. Then just 2 minutes later Shannon picked up a loss puck in the slot with some fancy foot work and spin-a-rama backhand shot to put us even. With 4 minutes left in the second Lorraine and Elizabeth put us up one with some fine passing and never give up play to beat the goalie. The lead would not last long as the Raiders put one in with only 2 minutes left to play in the second. The 3rd was all Raiders they were fore checking hard with 2 players on the puck and beating us to the loss pucks. They just wanted it more and we did and we just couldn't get it together. Patti nice job on D I know that you only had a reader digest lesson on the bench but you did most things right and stayed cool under the gun thanks for stepping up.

Posted Jan 22. Nice win everyone!! We opened up the scoring 3 minutes into the game with a nice breakout Lorraine to Lesley to Courtney. Nice pass Lesley! The first period was fast pasted with lots of end to end play. With 4 minutes left to play in the period Janey made a nice pass to Patti scoring our second. Nice hands Patti. 30 seconds later the Penguins scored on a long shot form the wing to end the period. We started the second off with a fast goal. One minute in Janay passed the puck to the net and the goalie didn't see it till the puck was in the back of the net. With 6 minutes left to play in the second Courtney rushed into the zone and drop pass to Lesley and took the D in deep. Lesley wrist shot form the point to put us up 4 to one. The Penguins would end the period with one more goal. 4 minutes in to the third the Penguins would score one more to make the game close. There was a lot of back and forth play in the 3rd. The Penguins pulled there goalie with 60 seconds to play Janey made a lead pass to Lorraine up the middle that got by with out being touched and it went strait into the net to seal the win. Nice work Janey 2 goals and an assist in one game. See you all on Saturday.

Posted Jan 25. Well what can I say anther game were the referees were terrible and it cost us the win. The first period started off with a lot of play in our zone the puck just seamed to be bouncing there way. We just couldn't get any forward momentum. The Storm scored with 5 minutes to go in the period. Then the referees who were letting interference penalties go left and right so far gave us two back to back and a tripping and final a Spearing I have no clue were that came from. This put us down to 3 skaters for the last minute of the Period and the first 4 minutes of the second. We were able to hold off the storm and even had a few chance short handed. We ended the second with 2 more penalties and were able to held the Storm off. In the third things just got stupid with the referees. With 4 minutes left to play we scored a goal but the referees called it no goal because there were off setting penalties Lorraine got interference and the Storm got hooking I have no idea how they came to this and why didn't they whistle the play dead. We had control of the puck for at least 15 seconds after the referees arm went up. After much discussion with the referees the no goal call was not over turned. The Storm called a time out and we regrouped. The face off was deep in the storms zone and we scored 7 seconds later short handed Sharon to Sandy to tie the game and that would be the final we all know that we won that game it should have been 2 to 1. Posted Jan 30. Well not our finest game we still had a few bright spots that I want to mention. I let you all down by not making some changes to the lines earlier in the game when we started getting behind. I should have made some changes at the start of the second period when I could see that things were not working. Good work by every one to score 2 goals in the last 4 minutes of the game. We had lots of chances to put some goals in but the puck was not bouncing our way. I won't go into all the goals with a play by play this time but just cover our goals. Janay put the first one in on that lines first shift some good puck control and making a lane to the net. This gave Janay an opening to the net and beat the goal no mistake. Things went down hill form there until the third Sandy scored one 2 minutes into the third. They score 3 well we were in the penalty box. Janey score the 3rd goal for us pass at the net good things happen. I don't think the goal saw it. Jody scored our 4th with some hard work in front of the net and a Bobby Orr like dive to end the game on a positive note. Even thought the score was lop sided we all keep our cool thanks. Posted Feb 11. I was a bit slow on posting the summery here it is for the game Feb 9. I was going over our stats and since January we have won 4 games lost 4 games and tied 4 games we were so close to winning this one. We had lots of chances in the first but just couldn't connect and ended the first down by one. We started the second off strongly but the Comets scored again. Janay scored a goal 20 seconds later to bring us with in one and give us some momentum. The Comets scored one more with 3 minutes left in the period. In the third we had a lot of chances but just couldn't get the shots on the net. With 10 minutes left to play Lorraine got a sweet rebound on a great pinch by the D and found the top corner of the net to put us with in one point. With 1:34 to play we had 3 or 4 great chances around the net and the goalie froze the puck for a face off. I was thinking of pulling the goalie but we had the pressure on them and they were panicking. So I didn't pull our goalie good thing they got one breakout and Heather had to make a save. We rushed back in and scored with only 23 seconds left to play. We had one more chance with only 5 seconds left but the puck just didn't bounce our way. Good job by every one. See you on Sunday.

Posted Feb 17. Very Close game on Sunday. The first 2 periods were very close with lots of opportunities on both sides. We had a very short bench 3 D and 6 forwards that got shorter in the third when Janey went down hard into the boards. I called her yesterday and she has a sprained shoulder and will be in a sling for the next 3 weeks. The Wild would score first in the 3rd 5 minutes in. With Janay out for the rest of the game we went to 2 D (Lorraine and Margo) and 2 forward lines. This worked out nicely as I was just starting to consider pulling the goalie, Shannon passed out to Patti who put it in the corner passed a screened goalie. Nice work by the whole line. The Wild really turned up the pressure and pushed hard for the win but some good goaltending and some lucky bounces keep the score even. Good game every one see you tonight 8:00 at North East Sports Plex.

Posted Feb 18. Good win every one. All the scoring action took place in the first period Rebecca with one and Les with 2 but, we won the game in period two and three. The key strength we showed in this game was the tape to tape passing and puck control. Every one was making sure of the passes and taking that little extra time needed to make a good pass. We also were definitely out thinking the other team we were always one step ahead of them and had them scrambling the whole game. Once again we played short handed for 12 minutes this could have easily cost us the game so lets focus on staying out of the box. I also want to recognize Margo, Patti and Rebecca for out standing play and puck support they really stepping up their play thanks. See you tomorrow.

Posted Feb 20. Well I have to apologize to the team for that loss it was definitely a result of poor coaching. I take the blame for that. I was not really at the game. I just seamed to be watching and not taking action to correct the issues. I promise to not let that happen again. I should have been more clear on my objectives for the game. I was not as prepared for the start as I like to be. This game was to test some combinations we had not tried before. I know that it was uncomfortable for some people but 11 players is a very hard number to work with. Every one has a bad game some time in the season this was mine. That being said we were really close to winning this game despite the turmoil on the bench. What a difference form our last game when everyone was clicking. Well one game left in the regular season let pull together and make it a good one see you on Thursday.

Posted Feb 27. Good game every one nice to see a full bench. Darcie, Patti and Rebecca scored on their first shift of the game to start us off on a positive note. Nice work. Everyone's shifts were a bit long in the first we have fallen in to bad habits with all the games we played with a short benches. Shift times were better in the second period. Jody ended the period with a unassisted goal with 2 minutes left. In the third the Ice pack tied the game with 9 minutes left to play and almost went ahead with a shot that rang off the inside of the post. Sandy made a nice pass to Jody in the slot and she beat the goal to put us up by one. The Ice Pack pulled their goalie and had a few good chances but the puck was bouncing our way and we held on for the win. I will post the playoff game schedule as soon it is available.

Posted March 24. Well our play off run was very short this year but the games were very close and they both could have went either way. We lost both games by only one point and the final game in a shoot out. Great season every one. I have enjoyed coaching but I am not that good at taking photos with a Cell phone. The 2 I took came out blurry. Thanks Shannon for good team photo.
