Mom, Marian & Me - Cover

Mom, Marian & Me; A Family's Poetry is an unusual poetry book. It displays the work of three poets from the same family and the life situations that determined each poet's unique response. Narrative passages explain the circumstances each faced, clarifying the evolution of the poems.

H. Margaret Parker was a true daughter of Saskatchewan, eldest of a farm family of seven and a teacher by age seventeen when she wrote these poems. From the mythology of the Qu'Appelle Valley, she developed a philosophy of non-violence, focused on community life.

Marian Arthur, a teacher, was felled by polio and faced life from a wheelchair. Still, she raised a family of four active boys, and later, lived alone as a writer. Often read on CBC's Alberta Anthology, she won the Jon Whyte Memorial Essay, about Canadian unity, "Joined in Love Together."

Gilbert Murray Parker is an engineer, businessman and a writer, widely published in magazines. His poetry has appeared in newsletters of the Alpine Club, Rotary Club, Victoria Writers Society and webmag Fireworks.
