I built this
telescope to the construction details shown in The Dobsonian
Telescope by David Krieg and Richard Berry. It is very much
an Obsession style telescope. It is built from Canadian and Baltic
birch plywood. It
has a 16-inch f5 BVC glass mirror, accurate to 1/12 wave
peak-valley from ASM Products of Quebec. The mirror is mounted on an
18-point floating cell that has cooling fans both in front and
behind the mirror. These fans bring the mirror to ambient air
temperature and break up the distorting stand of air in front of the
mirror. The
focuser is a model #RCF-1 from JMI, the 3.1-inch diagonal is from
Nova, and the spider, erect view 8 X 50 finder are from Sky
Instruments and the Rigel Quick Finder and 31 mm Nagler are
from a local dealer. The
telescope is sitting on an equatorial platform for tracking.
Wonderfully balanced and effortless to move. A real people gatherer
at different events. |
