WHO WE ARE:

In existence since 1990, the Aurora Celebration Choir's ever-increasing popularity as a vocal ensemble is a tribute to its joyful interpretation of songs, both sacred and secular, from around the world. We sing in many different languages and have recorded two full CDs of audience favourites.

Founded by Amy Stephen and directed by Elsie Stephen, the choir has a three-fold purpose: to sing well, to celebrate unity in diversity, and to hold fund-raising concerts for community-based organizations.

Local organizations who have been recipients of proceeds from Aurora Choir Concerts include AIDS Vancouver, Cameray Family Counselling Centre, Aunt Leah's Lifeskills Society, Downtown Eastside Women's Centre, Josh Platzer Society for Teen Suicide Prevention and Awareness, Operation Eyesight and many, many more...

The Aurora Celebration Choir presents and produces its own concerts twice a year, proceeds from which are donated to a non-profit, non-political, community-based organization often there is a personal connection between a choir member and the chosen organization, though not always. The Choir also accepts invitations to perform as part of community celebrations throughout the Lower Mainland. Some of the local community organizations who have invited the choir to perform at their celebrations or events include: Vancouver Chinese New Year Celebrations (at the Plaza of Nations ), Surrey Municipality Multicultural Committee (March Against Racism Concert), Baha'i New Year Celebrations, "Rebuilding Rwanda" filmmaking fundraiser, The Creative Peace Network, Around the World New Year's Eve Celebration (on Granville Island ), Marpole Community Festival, Vancouver 's "Festival of the Voice"...

The choir practices at St. Augustines Anglican Church in Vancouver, BC. Members are auditioned through a simple, friendly audition process - no intimidation allowed! For more information, contact the choir director, elsiestephen@shaw.ca
