...autumn skye...

"The hunger to create gives me purpose. Since I can remember, it has been my constant and my passion.

Working intuitively, I paint as a meditation. With each brush stroke and breath, I allow the art to fill me up as fluidly as it's released. I do not start with a completed concept but rather with fragments. Open to adding seemingly unrelated elements, I witness the work shape into something that often astonishes even myself.

The intent is to reveal a symbiotic relationship between artist, muse, and viewer. Texture, colour, and mixed media bring the images into our space, creating an interactive and sensory experience. Each encounter, an intimate rendezvous. I wish to portray spiritual essence in physical and realistic form, to reach out and move people beyond any barriers they may have.

Far beyond my own intentions, the finished piece continues to evolve with each unique perception. Spirit is the true artist, the work passes through me. I bring it into reality and share it with the viewer, who in turn, becomes the artist themselves. Seeing my art reflected in someone else's eyes is more than I could ever imagine..."

...artist bio...

Autumn Skye Morrison was born in Springhill, Nova Scotia in June of 1983. Her childhood was scattered across Canada as her family gradually made their way west. It was enriching to see the country in such variety and detail. Her father settled in the small town of Field in the Yoho valley of the Rocky Mountains. Her mother and stepfather built their home between Powell River and Lund on the Sunshine coast. Spending her seasons between the majesty of the mountains and the serenity of the ocean and lush forest, Skye developed a deep appreciation for beauty.

As soon as she was old enough to hold a pencil, she would spend countless hours playing with colours and figures. Since her childhood stick men she has been drawn to the human form, and to this day she strives to capture its life and essence.

Skye has traveled throughout North America, Mexico, and South East Asia, spellbound by unfamiliar landscapes and the cultures therein. Inspired, the impressions linger with her when she returns home. There she picks up her paints and brushes and merges emotion and colour.

In July 2005 she joined three partners and opened a music and arts cafe in Powell River, called Local Locos. It has become a community stronghold for creativity and self expression.
