"Is it real?" drawn Jan 22-24, '04 posted for Jan 17, 2007 (48) I'm terrible at French. -_-7 I have been watching Leslie's Last Exile DVDs. I just finished the first one, with episodes 1-13. They actually get more and more exciting as the series goes onward! It's a bit like Skyland meets Castle in the Sky, with all the flying battleships and mini-fighters and cool characters and things. My brother's favourite character is Sophia, the competent second-in-command of the Silvanna. She has a neat hairdo and wears glasses. I like Alex, the extremely clever captain of the Silvanna. He is very calm and cool as a cucumber, and he's also a bishounen (pretty boy) who needs a haircut. And he has a characterful cloak. Even with all this, I don't know if I like him better than the hero, brave, naïve Claus (rhymes with house). The Deeo-sama kid is an idiot, though: making admirative noises about Claus like "Vroom! Whoosh!" and he's a prisoner of war... I'd like to see a hand-to-hand contest between Deeo's bodyguard-buddy Luciola and Flairé, though. More about Alex: he slouches in his command chair like a king, hardly moving in the most desperate of battles, and the half-lit bridge of the Silvanna looks almost like a dark wizard's lair, especially when going through the Grand Stream, a strange tunnel of wind. He could take on Cortez of Skyland anytime, big time. I like Cortez, but Alex is definitely the better of the two. I do understand that Cortez perhaps doesn't get much of a chance to show off his intelligence and decision-making abilities, since Skyland is aimed at smaller children than Last Exile, and so there is less action and less complicated plot. (I'm just watching it now to see if and when Mahad kisses Dahlia) For some reason, I couldn't watch Episode... um... 11, I think - the one after Calculate Alex - in which (I gather) Claus and his best friend Ravey win a race and Alex manages to obtain some incredibly powerful and rare item in an auction. I got audio, but for some reason the visual wasn't there... I tried it with different programs... I don't think I could have broken it... Ravey's very emotional, isn't she? And Aru is the sweetest little girl ever! I like the opening credits song, with its dreamy atmosphere and the odd fragments of interspersed English (Just keep trying, just keep flying higher, need to run... (I'll be in the) Cloud Age Symphony (with you)... (The sea of clouds is) calling, calling the stars) Italics denote words that are still in Japanese. |
