| Pit and Link drawn May 23, '06 posted for Sep 11, 2007 (275) Tuesday, I'm not sure what happened... I was very tired, I'm sure of that. I had almost ALL of my books to take to school. I'm better than that now. Oh, yes, I remember. I went and borrowed the Ligeti Organ Etudes book and CD from the library, and then listened to them. I can't imagine how they made some of those sounds on the first one - and I'm an organist! It's an insane piece, and the score is utterly useless since it's terribly difficult to hear the changing notes when the registration is changing so much. Also on the CD, but I didn't listen to it yet, is a piece that literally fried an organ. Step One: Pull out ALL the stops. Step Two: Couple all manuals to one: Step Three: Play all keys on that manual. Step Four: POOF. Ligeti tried his piece out on a tracker (mechanical) organ first, and it worked, but then went to do it on an electric... Smoke started coming out of the pipes. It didn't help that someone used a bent sewing needle to replace a fuse some time earlier. Ouch. |
