CHARACTERS

Zela is the heroine of her mythology, which doesn't
have an actual name yet. She is the first elf (or kalla) to wake up, and
she was a bit of an experiment for the angels. She married the kalma-prince
Flaer, and had seven children. She loves dancing, and music also, and plays
mainly harp, violin, and she sings. She is also very good with a sword, and
has both a unicorn friend, Yoeath, and a silver dragon friend. Zela is rather moody at times, and laughs only rarely now. She still smiles often, but the destruction of her home, a long, long time ago, has thrown her into perpetual grieving. The sight of injustice throws her into terrible rages, in which it is best to hide in a corner and hope she doesn't notice you - which she would anyway: even rage does not dull her senses. Flaer is the second-generation prince of the
leading kingdom of the kalmaei, and is gentle and soft spoken. He is a
strong leader, but is sometimes overshadowed by his wife, Zela. He thinks
more than he speaks, and when he speaks, it is to offer comfort and counsel.
He is less prone to anger than Zela. He shows his grief for his home by showing
as little emotion as possible, though before, he was expressive enough. Flaer plays a variety of instruments,
being of the opinion that any sort of favouritism is bad. |

Flairé is the eldest son of Flaer and
Zela. With black hair and emerald green eyes, he is often mistaken for
Flaer's twin brother! Flairé is an excellent swordfighter and acrobat,
and plays flute, violin, harp, and also drum, often by dancing on it. He
is veritably flippant, and his cheerful words are never inappropriate or
insulting, unless a listener chooses to be insulted. Flairé also
mourns the loss of his homeland, but unlike his mother and father, is considerably
more cheerful about it. He suspects it is because, having never known true
peace the way they had, he cannot miss it the way they do. Flairé is very caring and spends much more time 'in the open' than his parents, helping random good-hearted people in trouble. Kylaralessa is the youngest princess of the kingdom
of the unicorns, and the most beautiful. She falls in love with Flaer's
younger brother, and so far they are scheduled to meet a tragic end sometime
in the third or fourth book. |

Lyrestan, the Firefly, is Flaer's younger brother,
the gentle but impetuous prince of the land of the moon. He fights with
an axe, which he treats as a cross between a sword with a long handle, and

daughter of Flaer and Zela. While she supports her siblings and parents in
all their quests, her real ambition is to sit quietly at home and take care
of the things they cannot while they are away. She is also a skilled healer
and loves dancing. Has a relationship with "Moonboy", the older brother of Deerfleet. |

of the four brothers stolen from their cradles at birth. Influenced in his
childhood by the culture of the Dragon-kingdom. Eager to defend his honour
and that of those he trusts, and has a disposition like his mother, flaming

The
wisest of the children of Flaer and Zela, Bayn is thoughtful. Discomfited
by his height, he usually spends his time curled in a large comfortable chair,
but will readily go out to fight if called. The second of four brothers stolen
from their cradles at birth. His interests were influenced by the people
of the Griffon kingdom. A very calm and quiet kalma. Has a girlfriend. |

The second youngest of the stolen brothers, Gullac was the closest to his own adopted pixie mother. He still likes playing
little pranks on his siblings, and often speaks sarcastically. He is vulnerable
to others' tears and has a bit of a temper, inflamed a little more easily
than his brother Marteth. Very protective of his little brother Mathaning. |

Mathaning is the youngest child
of Flaer and Zela, and the youngest in spirit also. The last of the stolen
brothers. He loves to listen to his brother Gullac and laugh at his jokes,
and indeed to laugh with delight at much of the world. Although he is a competent
fighter himself, his elder brothers have banded together to watch out for
him, especially Flairé and Marteth. |

Rana is a young Hylian who I made up for the Legend
of Zelda world. She is two years younger than Link, and was discovered as
an infant on the edge of the Kokiri Forest by one of the Kokiri children.
She was given a fairy named Naeri and taken in by them almost immediately,
since the Great Deku Tree couldn't sense any great destiny for her, unlike
Link. She became the best friend of Saria and Link while they were still children. After Link learned of his destiny to become the Hero the land so desperately needed, Saria chose to stay behind in the Kokiri Forest, while Rana came along as a side-kick. After Link drew the Master Sword and was sealed in the Sacred Realm for seven years, she grew, due to her Hylian blood, from a chubby little girl into a lithe, wiry acrobat-fighter. She uses a Hylian sword, of course, but it took her a long, long time to find one. She was captured when she was fifteen, and had to wait two long, mind-cracking years to be rescued by Link when he came back. Link is the Hero of Hyrule. The Link of Ocarina of
Time is the third Hero of Hyrule, known also as the Hero of Time since he
went through seven years in his struggle to defeat Ganondorf, the King of
Evil, the physical incarnation of Ganon the Evil One. He was the first Hylian
to gain access to the Kokiri Forest, orphaned on its edge. He became one of
the Kokiri, but until he turned twelve and began his quest to rid the land
of figurative darkness, he did not have a fairy like the others. |

Zelda is the kind but determined Princess of Hyrule.
