Claresholm Chamber of Commerce Minutes – March 17, 2006

1.       CALL TO ORDER

       Don Leonard called the meeting to order at 12:10p.m.

2.       APPROVAL OF AGENDA

       Moved by Wilf and seconded by Wes that the agenda items for discussion will be:

3.1    Hwy #2 Re-Alignment

3.2    Museum Sign

7.1        Business Awards

7.4        Flower Pots

8.3        Unsightly Properties

3.1   Hwy #2 Re-Alignment

            Discussion was held on where we go from here.  It was decided that we are looking for a Chamber policy, therefore it was decided to send out a questionnaire to all Chamber members.

            Moved by Wayne Lucas that we prepare a questionnaire to chamber members and send results to the Town Council.  CARRIED.

            Wes, Wilf and Kathy will put together a proposal to send out.  It will include the Mayor proposal with the following additions:

­                     North and south end turn arounds
­                    
Timeline request from the province
­                    
Main Street revitalization of the downtown core
­                    
Signage

3.2   Museum Sign

            Don reported that he has tried to meet with Rae Trimble and has no success and that the Kinsmen have withdrawn their support for this project and would like to use their money for other community projects.  The project is ended at this point.

7.1    Business Awards:

            Roxanne discussed that we had to make a decision on what we were doing with the business awards and Christmas party because of the need to make bookings in regards to the hall, caterers and entertainment.  It was decided that the two would be combined and that Roxanne will see if the hall is available for Nov. 25.

7.4      Flower Pots:

            The Chamber has 20 pots and would like to increase to 30 pots.  The quote presented by West Country Greenhouses was $75.00/each with our pots and $100.00/each with new pots.   We were to let them know by the first of March, so as we are pass the deadline it is recommended that we check with other towns as to where they got there flowers and the cost of them.

9.3      Unsightly Properties

            A copy of letter was presented by Betty and Lee Mainprize to the Town of Claresholm with their concern over the application of a autowrecker/storage to go in across from the arena.  Moved by Roxanne, seconded by Wilf that a letter be written to Council stating our opposition to the    develop of the auto wrecker/storage application in this area of town.  CARRIED.

ADDITION:

Formation of Committees:

It was discuss the need for committees to be form to help with the various projects the Chamber does in the course of a year.  It was suggested that each member be contacted and asked to submit their name on one of the following committees:

­         Trade Fair

­         Flower pots/Town Beautification

­         Memberships

­         Special Projects    

­         Business Awards/Christmas Party  - these would two committees but would work together.
