The paint used in the refinishing process is often a polyurethane or acrylic enamel. Sometimes epoxy paints are used.  Refinished fixtures are the most delicate of the fixtures. A refinished tub can look like new, but the surface is not as durable as the original finish was. To get good serviceability from refinished tubs, certain care should be taken. Often the company that did the work will provide a care guide to the consumer. If not, the following information could be of use.

-Abrasive and chlorine based cleaners should not be used.

-If the paint gets scratched below the water line, it should be touched up ASAP. Water can get under leading edges of paint and start a process of peeling. If the refinishing company did not provide touch up paint, hire them to do a touch up. Hiring a different company that perhaps uses a different paint is risky. Different paints are not usually compatible with each other.

-Avoid rubber mats that have the suction cups. These mats can be used if the suction cups are cut off.

-Avoid leaving wet rags and towels on the tub to dry. Especially during the weeks immediately following having the tub painted.
