Rust stains on metal tubs can be removed by using powdered cleansers that contain oxalic acid. An old fashioned solution is to make a paste out of cream of tartar and hydrogen peroxide. Apply this to the stain and gently scrub with a brush. Rinse thoroughly. Don't use bleach as it can actually speed up the rusting process.
