Welcome to BC Highways!
B.C. Highways is a website devoted to virtual road travel in Canada's third largest province, British Columbia. This page will provide an orientation to the website
if you are a new visitor to B.C. Highways and to British Columbia. The website has been active since 2004.

BC Highways is a website where - through pages of pictures showing a photographed route, plus applicable signage graphics and access to traveller related
facilities, provides a unique means of desktop travel in British Columbia through Road Tours and specialised interactive maps displaying road webcams in
Vancouver, major ferry terminals and the two major border crossings in the Vancouver area.

  Road Tours

For many highways in southwestern British Columbia and Vancouver Island, a series of pages such as that on the right is presented to provide the traveller with a virtual road trip.

The pages can be acessed from the maps or from the list of Road Tours.

Each page has a notation of the description and direction of the route
(some highways can be travelled in either direction). Up to 20 or 30 pictures are presented. In addition to the pictures a series of signs techncially made to as closely emulate those actually seen on the route as possible are used to complete the left side of a page.

On the right side of the page are narratives of locations and things
encountered on the route. The narratives also provide suggestions for
travel onto other highway pages that comprise the website.

In addition, access to highway cameras where they are geographically positioned in
relation to photographed routes are provided, plus for larger city centres such as
Vancouver, and Victoria, specialised signage will direct you to resources which will
provide you with being able to hear local radio, just as if you were listening in the car.

The pages are designed with use of ADSL/DSL/Broadband in mind.
lengthy loading times will occur on the longer routes if 56k modem
access is used.

To begin travel click on either map above or the sample page.
