The Single Transferable Vote  (STV) Referendum:

what we think about it
(now stop sending us flames).

We can do it...by voting! May 17, 2005

Quite a few people have been e-mailing us about the Single Transferable Vote (or STV) Referendum.

To be honest, we are like most everybody else, in that we don't really have much time on our hands to deal with this one.  It's not a conspiracy, or an attempt to suppress information, or any of that JFK-files kind of stuff (and may we say that one or two of you folks who've been writing to us are very creative individuals).  We simply aren't going to tell you which way to go.  That's up to you.

Our formal position on the STV Referendum at this time is this:

"With the very limited resources available to us, we have decided to focus our efforts in the area where we feel we can make the biggest difference: getting women out to vote and ensuring a more balanced government is in place on May 18, 2005.  While we have no doubt that the STV Referendum is very important, we do not have the resources or the energies to address the issue with all the fairness, balance, and attention it deserves, and therefore we do not take an official position on the outcome."

The Website Coordinator put it in quotation marks for the effect, but just so you know up front - that bit in quotes is what the Website Coordinator will send, along with a link to this page, in reply to any e-mail about this issue.  (Your e-mail won't come with the cool quotation marks, though.  Sorry.)

Anyway, to carry on:  at the suggestion of one of our own members, we are dealing with the issue by posting the following two links regarding the STV Referendum [links will open in a new window]:

PRO (for):  www.STVforBC.com

CON (against):  www.KnowSTV.ca

Yep, there's a disclaimer:  we make NO endorsement of information contained on either of the above two websites.  They are posted to allow concerned women voters to read both sides of the issue and make their own, hopefully-better-informed decision on the issue.

And no, we're very sorry, but the Website Coordinator won't post your own information if you e-mail us.  Not even if you ask nicely.  Not EVEN if you bring cookies for the Website Coordinator, and the Website Coordinator really LIKES cookies.  We're just pushed to our limits here, folks.  But thanks for thinking of us.

Very sincerely,
The Website Coordinator
