Dave... You rock!

Those are some nice shots from the demo. Now you'll have to sell that board on eBay! We are having a skate competition at our school's skatepark tomorrow. I just found out I'm in charge...long story. Francis and I are the judges and it starts at 1:30. I'll take some pics and make links.

Boards are on sale at Boarderline for $50 for shop and $60 for True North (same board).

Rick, we'll be out Friday evening and (hopefully) Saturday.

No roadtrip for you!

Okay, due circumstances beyond our control, neither Monti nor I will be able to attend the grommet-fest err... skate demo.

Get us some good pics Dave.

Mont says the Skatelite is in, so it sounds like this week should be fun.

FYI Everyone, if you can reduce the width of photos you post to below 400 pixels wide, they don't screw up the page layout. Bigger pics are removing the links on the right.
I'm working on resolving this problem with an edit to the template, but no luck so far.

Chris and Mary

Hey, I told Shea about the site. I also emailed Chris, Mary and Blake and Nerida. I remember Kent buying "Eat Your Paisley" on a band trip and I just got it in the mail yeaterday. It was sweet to hear some of those songs again. I also got a three-disc Flaming Lips CD too. If any one wants copies, just let me know. *Rick*, were you serious about going up to Edmonton? I've been thinking about it. Dave, could we crash with you, or am I dreaming about all this?

Chris wrote this:

"As for China, it is really good. Xinjiang is as much Central Asian as it is China. About half the population are non-Chinese, including Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Uzbeks, Krygits, Mongolians, Tajiks, Tibetans, and Russians. The food is very Central Asian with alot of Naan and mutton kebobs. So Xinjiang is a very Muslim area with close lingustic links with Turkey. We live at the north of the city of Urumqi with about 2 million people. Mary and Rhonda are teaching English at the high school and elementary school and I am studying Chinese and Uyghur about 20 hours a week. Chinese characters are hard of course but the good thing is that Uyghur uses the Arabic script which is much easier.

At the moment it is very hot here (33) and it will only get hotter. I plan on doing a fair amount of travelling here in the province and look forward to doing some camel treks in the desert. I also located a few towns that still do alot of falconry which we hope to visit. Anyways, I think we will be coming home at the end of July but return to China to study for at least another year at the end of August. "

Dave's ranting again...

Rick your post really said it…

Kent told me his story about guilt and how it made him feel, and it’s Fucking Tragic. What if I don’t want to wear a white shirt on Sunday, What if I want to smoke a cigar and have a vodka stinger with a whiskey back, look at some strippers, get horny and have train wreck, crazy sex with my beautiful wife. The Organization would say “Uh ohh… Brother Sannes you are on the path to ruin and devastation, you are bringing everyone you know or have ever known on that dark little trip too. Well if that’s the case then buckle up fucknuts ‘cause we’re goin’ for a ride.

I am making the best attempt I know how, to not let guilt poison me. The Organization runs on guilt. I don’t think that’s how it was meant to be. I think, idealistically, it should be a place where everyone is welcome from the prophet down to the hung over guy who is wearing flip-flops and shorts and can’t wait to get outside to have a smoke. When was the last time you saw someone like that welcomed in?

Oh and sex… There’s a real problem. How many people can say they feel completely comfortable with their sex lives. Not many… Lots of people doing lots of stuff to compensate (Porn, Jerkin’ off, and on and on) and what is everyone feeling like… guilty, guilty, guilty. How many people were told all their lives “sex is bad, sex is evil, don’t have sex,” then got married and had sex, felt guilty, never really felt comfy with it. If I had a quarter for every guy in the church who jerks off to porn and feels shitty… then feels shittier because their wife won’t give it up or really participate that much I’d be rich.

Since I have decided to “do what I want” I am waaayyy happier. I have lots of fun, I have unbelievable sex, I have more friends that I have a lot more in common with. I have more time for my kids, and more time for my wife. I love my job, and I am better at it.

I’m not saying this path is for everyone. I am saying that before you run off and give the stock answers and condemnations, take a minute or 6000 and think about it.

Rick this Blog is the best idea, I’d love to hear from anyone, anytime.

Dave is Dead

Here's a little quote I found on This Website. It's about Dave Blood. I believe he was the bassist for the Dead Milkmen. Dave recently took his own life after a long bout with depression. This quote changed my day, maybe it'll do something for you.

"Death is going to get you in the end ANYWAY. No matter what you do to avoid it, you WILL die. But it's absolutely incredible that you are alive.

Do you realize how many things throughout history had to go just perfectly so that you are alive today? And if you're absolutely miserable, CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Save up to move somewhere else. See a psychiatrist. Get a divorce. Adopt a puppy. Make friends in chat rooms. Take up drinking. If somebody purposely abuses or hurts you, HURT THEM BACK. Do whatever you have to do to stay alive (without harming any innocent people, if possible).

Try to create something. Drop out of school, live on a floor and join a band. If you're feeling suicidal, say to yourself, 'What the hell - life's just going to kill me in the end anyway. I'd might as well go see a movie or hire a prostitute while waiting for it to happen.' Whatever - it's your only life.

If you feel trapped, escape into another aspect of life. The world is enormous, and there are lots of places to go, people to meet and things to do. Just DON'T GIVE UP. Because believe it or not, people will miss you.

Try to squeeze every possible morsel of happiness out of life that you can in this limited time you have, because you WILL be dead some day, but you will NEVER be alive again (most likely). Please think about this, reader person, the next time you feel like calling it a day."

Remembering Kent

So I tracked down a couple pics of Kent.
One is considerably more Kent-ish than the other...

I'm feeling a bit melancholy today.

Skate Order

I got some kids together at the school to put in an order from CCS.com. They have a good selection and not bad prices. If you let me know by tomorrow PM we can get free shipping b/c the order is over $90 already. Rick, they have some pretty good (Pro-Tec) pads there, I have some. Stuff comes fast and may be here by Friday. Just check out CCS.com and let me know one way or the other. Another good place for used stuff is eBay (can be cheap). Things are looking good in Magrath, hope to have some pics soon. Thanks Rick! Dave, who else is going to be at that demo besides those two guys? Is it a mini-demo?

An Oasis in a Desert of Taste

Okay, lately I've been listening to the UofL student-run radio station CKXU.
Here's a link to the streaming audio

It's not bad, quite good sometimes, and never, NEVER predictable.

Hey Dave, nice to see a post.

Post some pics of the event, I'm sure you'll get some good ones since you have a big camera and that seems to get you into places mere mortals are not allowed.

Oh yeah I was going to try to post a picture, to see if it'd work...

I'm working by bag off

I feel Bog-a-riffic

On May 24 Ray Barbee and Steve Cabellero are comin' to town. I'm gonna go out like a weinie and have Ray sign my board. I am definately going to start riding more. It's been way to long plus they built a pretty intense skate park 5 min from the homestead. I'm in for a day of shmoozing and w(h)ine cheeze food and some night club goofery. It's my students Showcase and Grad today. Wheeeee.

Nice to see you!

Hey, I'm glad the instructions worked.
I will swing by the arena sometime tonight and we can get our proverbial shit together in regard to what we'll do here.
Hey Dave, no luck with the invite yet?
Hmmm...

Still thinking about what the title should be...

Yee-Haw! I got me a blog!

Well,

It looks like this is going to work. I'd just like to say thanks to Rick for setting this up and I think it's a good way for people to stay in touch and share info. Rick, we'll be at the Ice Arena tonight, come to the side door where Dave's truck will be.

Monti

PS Anyone want to share music? I could publish a list of stuff I have and we could just send each other $1.50 per CD or some blank media. Any comments?

Who should we invite here?

So I was screwing around with the blog setup this morning and I was wondering who we should invite to participate here...
Everyone from the 'old-school' days?
Everyone we know now?
Everyone on the planet?

Hmmm...

I'm not sure.
I'd like to make this a place to 'check-in' if you haven't been back to Magrath, or Alberta, or Canada for that matter.
It'd also be nice to get contact info for those who want to establish some sort of communication between those of us who used to hang-out together.

I guess I'll just think some more on it.

I know the title is gay...

...but I pulled a Bowie and used a program to randomly generate some synonyms for the phrase I typed in and out came "pleasantly reminiscent".
So here's the deal, I'm totally open to suggestions so think up something better!!

Also, make sure you respond to the invitation email you get or you won't be able to post here.

Too strange not to share

Get a load of this:

If this pans out it will be LEGENDARY

The ball is rolling...

If you're reading this then you probably got the invitation email I sent.
I think it'll be interesting to see how many people we can get responses from.
As people respond to the invitation email, we should get a fair number of posters here...
Fire off an email to my email address (it starts with rick and ends with the at sign and rickberes.com) if you are reading this and haven't been invited to post.

First Post

I have no idea if this thing works or not, but here goes nothing...
