- The sample nomination form
must be photocopied onto school letterhead before
being filled out and faxed to The Brick Sport Central at (780) 474-9982. The Program is
only available to elementary school children in Edmonton.
- The nomination form must be filled out and signed by the teacher making the
nomination, and endorsed, where indicated, by the school principal, and a parent or
guardian of the student.
- Teachers should nominate only those hard working students, from families in need, who
have distinguished themselves in class in at least one subject or through overall effort.
Identification of students from families in need is the responsibility of the teacher and
school making the nomination. Please note that there are a number of reasons a student may not have a
bike, and family financial capacity is only one of the possible explanations. The program is
only intended for these students from families in financial need.
- The bicycle awards are free but only available to students who do not have bicycles
and who have never received a bicycle from The Brick Sport
Central. Nominations will be rejected where The Brick Sport Central records
indicate that a bicycle has previously been provided for the student under any program.
- The award bicycles are used and have been reconditioned by The Brick Sport Central.
They may lack some of the bells and whistles that the students have seen on bikes in local
stores. It is important that no one be misled into thinking these bikes will be brand new. A
bike helmet will be provided with each bike awarded.
- The students have the unlimited use of the awarded bicycles but The Brick Sport Central
retains the ownership to discourage their resale.
- The awarded bikes will be selected by The Brick Sport Central and be appropriate for the
height, weight and sex of the student as indicated on the nomination form. The students
will not get to choose their bikes.
- When there are multiple nominations from one school the result is usually a bulk delivery
to the school at a time arranged with the teacher(s). For individual nominations deliveries
are made to the student's home at a time arranged with the parent or guardian. Teachers please
note that to the extent possible the bikes delivered to homes will
be provided on a confidential basis in hopes of sparing the recipient any negative comments
or peer jealousy and minimizing parent pressure on those not nominated.
- It is recommended that teachers do not use the prospect of receiving a Bicycle Award
to motivate students. Otherwise unsuccessful students may be subject to failure,
frustration and disappointment. The bicycles are intended to reward students for
academic results and effort given without such inducement.
