In 1868 the American
Bank Note Co. produced a sample sheet to show the high quality
of the company's stamp production. In addition to the 10¢
Bill Stamp, the trade sample sheet also showed an assortment
of 19 different stamps from 10 other countries: |
| Canada |
Nova Scotia |
| Newfoundland |
Brazil |
| Chile |
Mexico |
| Salvador |
Nicaragua |
| New Brunswick |
Peru |
|
| A special
plate was made up from the original transfer rolls. Each impression
is separated from the others sufficiently that when the sheet
is cut up each stamp resembles a small die proof. There are over
100 different colours. They are lacking the brilliance of colour
and the sharp design features of the plate proofs and can be
found on bond, vertical mesh and horizontal ribbed wove paper,
and vertical and horizontal laid paper. |
Easily identified by their pastel colours.
